Spartanburg County in South Carolina is currently grappling with a ransomware attack restricting its IT and phone networks. The attack was detected on April 27th, 2023, as indicated by a tweet from Spartanburg County's official Twitter account. Kay Blackwell, a Spartanburg County spokesperson informed The Record news outlet, the government is investigating the incident with security experts and law enforcement. While hindered, many services remain available to the county of over 327,000 residents. “All essential services continue to operate, including 9-1-1 operations and emergency communications. We will keep the community informed as we have further updates and express our ongoing gratitude for the continued patience and support,” said Blackwell. As of now, no ransomware group has taken responsibility for the attack publicly.
